The Boone County Sheriff’s Department is currently the second (2nd) largest Sheriff’s Department in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and the largest full service Sheriff’s Department in the state. The Boone County Sheriff’s Department has one hundred fifty five (155) sworn deputies. Currently, there are eighty four (84) Deputies assigned to the Patrol Division and Collision Investigation & Traffic Enforcement Unit (Traffic Unit). Boone County Sheriff Deputies responded to nearly two hundred thousand calls for service in 2017.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office, located in Northern Kentucky, serves a broad and diverse population of 132,000 residents (information obtained from county website). Boone County borders Southwest Ohio, Southeast Indiana, and the Ohio River. The Boone County Judge Executive’s Office and Planning Commission further has estimated that the daytime work and travel population is approximately 250,000 to 300,000 people. Boone County is comprised of two hundred fifty-six (256) square miles, has three (3) major interstates to include I-75, I-275, and I-71, two (2) federal highways to include U.S. 25 and U.S. 42, and additionally has forty eight (48) state highway/routes. Many of these main roadways serve as a major north-south connector of the mid-western and eastern United States. The above demographics also represent the ability of the regional population to easily traverse local and state boundaries. The combined populations of the three Northern Kentucky Counties (Boone, Campbell, and Kenton Counties) and Hamilton County, OH (Cincinnati) serve a population of over one million people.
Boone County is home to the Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG), a major international airport. Boone County is located in the Northern Kentucky region and is considered a suburban region of Cincinnati, a major metropolitan city. The northern portion of Boone County is approximately 10-15 minutes from downtown Cincinnati, as well as nearby heavily populated areas to include Covington and Newport. Additionally, Boone County borders the state of Indiana and is connected by the Carroll Cropper Bridge over the Ohio River.
Boone County additionally has large sporting venues within a short drive to include the Cincinnati Bengals (NFL), Cincinnati Reds (MLB), U.S. Bank Arena (Cincinnati Cyclones), University of Cincinnati, Xavier University, Northern Kentucky University, and the Kentucky Speedway (NASCAR). This also includes multiple casino locations, the Jack Cincinnati Casino in Cincinnati, OH, Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, IN, Rising Star Casino in Aurora, IN, and lastly Belterra Casino in Vevay, IN. Boone County also has multiple large packaging facilities to include Amazon (5 locations), EBay (2 locations), McLane Food Service, Toyota, Pepsi Co., DHL, UPS, and Fed Ex Hubs just to name a few throughout the county. These combined areas, venues, businesses, and event locations not only encompass large amounts of vehicular traffic, they also include large amounts of commercial traffic and commerce throughout the county.
